How to use a Discord timestamp
- Choose the date, time, and timezone of your event.
- Find the display format you want and copy its code.
- Paste the code into a Discord message.
For example, <t:1790000000:R> uses the relative style. Discord displays the time remaining or elapsed without requiring you to rewrite the message. A timestamp represents one instant; the displayed clock time depends on the reader.
All nine timestamp styles
Choose a time-only display, a date-only display, or a combined date and time. The codes are case-sensitive: t and T differ, as do s and S. The f style is the default when the style suffix is omitted.
Use F for an event announcement that includes the weekday. Use R for a countdown or elapsed-time label. Combine a full-date timestamp and a relative timestamp in the same announcement when both are useful.
Timezones and daylight saving time
The input timezone determines what your chosen clock time means. The previews use your browser's timezone. If a clock change creates two occurrences of the same local time, choose the intended occurrence. A time skipped by a daylight-saving transition is rejected instead of silently shifted.
Timezone rules come from your browser's Intl data. Keep your browser updated for the latest rules. This tool supports instants from 1970 through 2100; boundary dates in some timezones may fall outside that range.
Unix seconds, milliseconds, and Discord IDs
Discord timestamp tags use whole seconds since the Unix epoch. JavaScript commonly reports milliseconds, so a 13-digit millisecond value should be divided by 1000 before use. This decoder rejects millisecond-shaped input rather than interpreting it as seconds.
A Discord snowflake ID contains a creation-time component. The tool extracts it locally using BigInt arithmetic. It cannot identify an account owner, retrieve a message, or confirm whether the ID refers to a real object.
Frequently asked questions
Will everyone see the same clock time?
No. Everyone sees the same instant displayed in their own timezone. Someone in Baghdad may see a different clock time from someone in London.
Does the relative timestamp update?
Discord updates relative timestamps as time passes. This page refreshes its relative preview periodically while visible.
Do I need a bot or Discord login?
No. Generate the code here and paste it into a Discord message.
Why can the preview differ from Discord?
The browser and Discord may use different date-formatting rules. The copied code still represents the same instant.
Can I decode an existing timestamp?
Yes. Paste a timestamp tag, Unix seconds, or a Discord ID into the decoder. The decoded moment is loaded into the selected input timezone.
