Twitch Bot Hosting

Build useful tools for your Twitch community.

Host Twitch chat automation, channel commands and event integrations while learning how OAuth, EventSub and message limits work.

What a Twitch bot does

A Twitch bot can respond to chat commands, help moderators, manage community utilities and react to supported channel events. It does not replace streaming software or host the video stream itself.

Many bot tasks wait for messages or events rather than performing constant CPU-heavy work. The resource requirements still depend on your libraries, integrations and application design.

Authentication comes first

Twitch integrations use OAuth and application credentials. Register the appropriate application with Twitch, request only the scopes you need and protect client secrets and refresh tokens.

Access tokens may expire. Plan for token renewal using Twitch's documented authorization flow and securely persist the data your integration needs after a restart.

Receiving chat and events

Twitch provides interfaces for chat and EventSub. EventSub can deliver notifications through supported transports, including WebSocket and webhook configurations. WebSocket connections are initiated by your application, while webhooks require public HTTPS connectivity.

Choose libraries that support Twitch's current APIs, rather than following tutorials based on deprecated integration methods.

Deploy on Volyx

  1. Create a Twitch developer application and configure its required OAuth settings.
  2. Build a small test bot that responds to an authorized event.
  3. Choose a supported runtime and confirm dependency compatibility.
  4. Upload the project to Volyx and configure credentials as secrets.
  5. Start the application and inspect console logs for authorization or connection errors.
  6. Handle token renewal, reconnects and rate limits before relying on the bot in a live channel.

Questions

Does this host my Twitch stream?

No. This page is about the software that supports a channel, not video encoding or broadcasting.

Can one bot work with multiple channels?

Potentially, if its authorization model and application architecture support them. Review Twitch's current platform rules and rate limits.

Do I need a domain?

It depends on the integration. Some outbound connections do not, while webhook and OAuth redirect configurations can require reachable URLs.
